  • For potted plants, mix worm castings into your soil or growing medium at up to 20% by volume. A good rule of thumb is 1 part worm castings to 3–4 parts potting soil. This creates a nutrient-rich, biologically active mix that improves moisture retention, aeration, and root development without overwhelming your plants.

For established plants, worm castings also work beautifully as a top dressing. Apply about ½–1 inch of castings around the base of the plant, keeping a little space away from the stem. Gently work the castings into the top layer of soil using your fingers, a gloved hand, or a small gardening fork — taking care not to disturb or damage surface roots. Once watered in, nutrients and beneficial microbes begin slowly moving into the root zone over time.
